The Durham County Department of Public Health also offers a series of one-time presentations/workshops that can be offered in any community space, including:

  • Gun safety

  • Alzheimers / Dementia
  • Arthritis
  • Opioid use / epidemic
  • Domestic violence
  • Men's Health topics
  • Self-management classes for living with long-term conditions:
  1. Living Healthy with Chronic Disease, an interactive program that focuses on skill-building activities that help participants with chronic diseases become more confident in their ability to manage their disease.
  2. Living Healthy with Diabetes, an interactive program that focuses on skill-building activities that help people with diabetics become more confident in their ability to manage their condition.
  3. Living Healthy with Chronic Pain, an interactive program that focuses on skill-building activities that help those diagnosed with different types off conditions with pain manage their disease.Conditions such as rheumatic diseases, fibromyalgia, lupus and others to name a few benefit from this series.
  4. Matter of Balance, a fall prevention program for seniors or anyone else at risk for falls.This program meets for 8 sessions; either twice for four weeks or once for eight weeks, for one hour.

These 6-8 week workshops meet once a week for two hours and are ideal for community settings such as senior centers, churches, libraries and hospitals.

Hypertension Management Workshop: a four-five week workshop meeting for one hour each week to help participants understand and better manage high blood pressure. 

Hypertension Support Group:  High Blood Pressure can be challenging to manage and should be taken seriously.  Danger could be happening in your body that can easily be prevented.   In a group setting, participants learn tips, discuss challenges and maybe even sample blood pressure friendly treats.
